Robin Williams

Chairman

Robin joined the co2balance board in July 2008 as an investor. Prior to this Robin was the founder and major shareholder of Williams Medical Supplies plc which was sold to private equity in 2007. Prior to this his previous role was in Pharmaceutical Sales.

Mark Simpson

Managing Director & Founder

Founder of co2balance, Mark's early background was a Research Chemist with ICI. During his time with ICI Mark specialised in computerisation and computer networking, he developed the first PC based Laboratory Information Management (LIMs) system for the company.  He also architected and implement the companies first peer to peer PC network, which at the time was one of the first in the UK

After ICI Mark has joined Philips Electronics’s computing division that later became part of European computing giant Atos Origin, were Mark was the Chief UK Technical Architect and was the person responsible for bring internet access and internet networking to the UK part of the company in the late 1990s

Mark moved on to found co2balance in 2003, to assist with the mitigation of climate change using carbon offsetting as the primary vehicle to achieve this. Under Mark’s stewardship co2balance soon became one of the leading carbon management companies in Europe and was key and founding player in the setting up ICROA. As the market developed Mark saw the opportunity to extend co2balance’s reach and the opportunity to move further in to the carbon project developer space. To this end Mark identified the East African region as offering an opportunity to provide ethical and community based carbon offsetting projects. He established a company in the region in 2006 and since then co2balance has been instrumental in the carbon market of Kenya and the wider region.

Huw, Robin and Suzanne joined Mark on the board of co2balance in 2008 and co2balance has since secured its place as a globally renowned project developer and Mark has extended it project reach in to Southern Africa, Western Africa and in to Asia and in particularly to the Indian sub continent. Today Mark as MD oversees the co2balanes global operations and ensures that it operates in an ethical and efficient manor.

Suzanne Longworth

Operations Director

Suzanne graduated in IT and began her career at the Xerox Corporation in the UK. Suzanne continued to work in IT having left the UK and relocated to the USA working for the banking and financial investment sector in Project Management and Business Analyst roles. Upon her return to the UK Suzanne continued to work in the banking Sector for Barclays Bank until she left to founded her first company, a Property Management and Investment Company. Following the subsequent sale of the company Suzanne founded a Toy Company, with a Partner, which invented, manufactured and distributed unique children’s’ toys into the travel sector. She joined co2balance, following the sale of her most recent company, opening the North of the UK for business development, in 2006.

Suzanne transitioned into a Project Management Role with co2balance in 2008 and subsequently Operations Director ensuring the strategic direction for the organisation is implemented across East Africa and the UK head quarters.

As Operations Director, Suzanne has been fundamental in the design, development and implementation of the co2balance projects  and has overseen  the roll out, to date, of over 60,000 Energy Cook Stoves, managing at times a team of over 300 individuals to date with further projects underway. Currently Suzanne is a member of the Technical Advisory Committee for the Gold Standard in 2012, a Governing Body for Carbon Offsetting

Huw Jones

Financial Director

Huw joined co2balance as an investor in July 2008. Huw is a Chartered Accountant who became the Financial Director and Company Secretary at the same time. Previously Huw was the Financial Director and Company Secretary of Williams Medical Supplies plc. Prior joining William Medical Supplies plc Huw was self-employed for 15 years running several businesses. In addition he has been the Financial Director for a number of trading companies after qualifying as a Chartered Accountant with Moores Rowland in London before moving to Coopers and Lybrand in Jersey to gain his practicing certificate. 

Steve Hewson

Director Of Sales And Marketing

Prior to joining co2balance in April 2011, Steve was the Marketing Director for Toshiba TEC UK Ltd. Steve joined co2balance to grow the retail and investment sales, and to provide the marketing direction for both co2balance and client partners.

Steve has been responsible for the creation of supporting materials, case studies  and location  shot videos, that assist our clients by supporting their own marketing campaigns in connection with co2balance projects. Steve is currently the co chair for ICROA (the International Carbon Reduction and Offset Alliance) a code compliant industry body that promotes best practice the voluntary carbon market..

Paul Keir

Managing Director Of Carbon Zero Kenya Ltd

Paul was born in Scotland in 1964 and brought up in Africa from 10 months old. Boarding school at Fettes College in Edinburgh from 1972 was to be his educational base whilst his adopted home remained East Africa in general and Kenya in particular. Paul has lived in Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa but for the most part in Kenya.

Now based in Kenya, Paul brings a wealth of African business, political and cultural experience having set up a number of businesses over the years in East Africa which includes Seaboard Overseas Trading (K) Ltd (a company that imported around 200,000 tons of wheat per annum), Windsor Group of Hotels and Wines of the World. Having been a Director with co2balance from 2008, Paul is responsible for the expansion and running of our African operations in the world of carbon.
