Hi everyone!
I’m Emily and I have recently joined CO2balance as a Carbon Project Officer in Taunton. I am extremely excited to be part of such a lovely team and very thankful for the opportunity in these crazy times!
I am delighted to join a company that not only develops impactful climate mitigation projects on the ground, but also provide innovative carbon management solutions to the industry.
I have been fascinated by the natural world from a young age which led to me undertaking a BSc in Zoology and an Msc in Biodiversity & Conservation, both at the University of Exeter. Through university, I was fortunate enough to go on various field trips and to be involved with a variety of projects ranging from monitoring species populations to conservation of marine mammals, but one trip that springs to mind is Kenya. It was amazing being immersed in wildlife and culture, yet at the same time truly devastating to be confronted by extreme poverty and lack of access to basic human resources such as water among other things, a reality for the communities living there.
My previous job role as a Consultant at a Natural Resource Consultancy really brought to light my passion for sustainability, as well as highlighting the significant environmental, social and economic issues present within forest and agricultural commodity supply chains. My work was predominantly focused on sustainable palm oil and timber, involving research and stakeholder engagement within the public and private sector on illegality, certification, policies, and regulations.
I was also lucky enough to be able to visit palm oil plantations in Thailand and engage with smallholders to understand the difficulties they face in terms of compliance to certification standards as well as social issues such as income and gender inequality.
I love being outdoors, travelling abroad, exploring new cultures, playing football and trying to learn Spanish… trying being the key word!!
Combining my passion for all things sustainability and field work, I cannot wait to continue contributing to the development of current and new projects here at CO2balance and create a real impact on the ground.
