Uganda, “the Pearl of Africa”, is located in East Africa, sharing borders with the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, South Sudan and Rwanda. Much of the country’s South East is taken up by Lake Victoria, the largest lake in Africa. Uganda boasts the source of the River Nile, the glacier-capped Rwenzori Mountains and an abundance of wildlife such as African elephants, tree-climbing lions and mountain gorillas. Uganda has a population of just over 39 million, and although the country has rapidly reduced its poverty levels in recent years, 27% live on less than $1.25 a day.
